About 18 months ago, we embarked on the ministry to provide a small, outdoor bookcase for children living in neighborhoods near the church campus, filled with children’s books. There have been two book drives to date. This past summer, the book drive delivered close to 200 books, and most of the books are new, like-new condition, or very gently used. And very importantly, numerous books are beginning readers, for very young children… such as Lakeshore Learning, Scholastic Readers, Baby Einstein, etc. Thank you ORLC congregation!
The bookcase is made from a discarded cabinet, modified to hold the books and then colorfully painted, mounted on a stand, and put in place close to the entrance to the lower parking lot. It is for children 12 years and under ONLY. It is waterproofed to safeguard the books, and the books are changed or refreshed frequently. If you have not seen the bookcase yet, you are invited to make a visit.
Thank you to all the volunteers who have made the little library possible and who keep this ministry going strong! Your support is greatly appreciated.
In Christ, Pauline La Gamma and Dan Herman
